Hyannis is an unincorporated village, in the town of Barnstable, Barnstable County, southeastern Massachusetts, within the southern coast of Cape Cod, on Lewis Bay. It is a famous summer vacation resort, a commercial center, and also a distribution point for fish and cranberries. A family home of President John F. Kennedy is at nearby Hyannis port. Settled in 1666 and named for a local Native American leader, Hyannis progressed as a business center after the railroad arrived at in 1854.
