Stockport lies within the cosmopolitan City of Manchester along with the wonderful countryside of the Derbyshire Peaks and the Cheshire Plains. The area boasts exceptional shopping facilities, a diverse and captivating number of tourist attractions, beautiful countryside and also a wide variety of thriving local centres.
For more than 700 years, Stockport Market, overlooked by 13th century St Mary's Church, has been an important centre of trade. In 1852 Stockport's Cheese Hall was built for the town's cheese and dairy market, followed by the covered market hall in 1861. When restored in the 1980s to its original Victorian splendour, filled with ornamental iron and glass, it won a Civic Trust award. The Cheese Market, renamed the Produce Hall, has also been refurbished. Click here for details.
The market is held three times a week, such as a flea market on Tuesdays. It is recognized by bargain hunters as a place which you could track down several fresh produce to clothes, handbags and household knick-knacks at great value prices.
Whatever you are looking for, Stockport Market has everything you will be needing for a special celebration. From unusual gifts to fresh local produce.
