Pesaro is a city in central Italy, capital of Pesaro e Urbino Province, in Marche Region, within the Adriatic Sea. The city is a popular resort, a fishing port, and also a commercial center with trade in agricultural products. Manufactures consist of ceramics, machinery, and also textiles. A Roman colony dating from the 2nd century BC, Pesaro was later taken by the Goths, Byzantines, and Franks. Control of the city subsequently surpassed to the Malatestas (late 13th century) and to the Sforzas (mid-15th century.) Just after 1631 it has been under papal control except during the Napoleonic era.
