Tourist information - Monza

Monza is a city in northern Italy, in Lombardy Region, over the Lambro River. An industrial city, Monza has factories manufacturing hats, leather goods, textiles, and carpets. A famous automobile racetrack (1955) is found here. The ancient capital of the Lombards, Monza owed most of its importance, along with its chief public edifices, to Queen Theodelinda. In 595 she established the cathedral in which is preserved the iron crown of Lombardy, supposed to have been made out of a nail used in the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Humbert I of Italy was assassinated by an anarchist in Monza in 1900.
