Utrecht’s canals and wharfs relish worldwide fame. Few other cities on earth have pedestrian wharfs over the water quite like these. These were developed centuries ago to provide access to the cellars underneath the canal side buildings. The Dom Church and Dom Tower stand in the middle of a crucifix of four churches: the Pieterskerk, Pauluskerk, Janskerk and Mariakerk.
The Dom Tower is the highest church tower in Holland and the symbol of the city. Visitors may climb at the highest gallery (112 metres, 465 steps). A climb to the top of the Dom Tower gives a good impression of the multifaceted city.
