Festival of Philippi
Since 1957, it has been the most important cultural happening of the city and one of the most important of Greece. It takes place in the ancient theater during the high season, in July, August and September with ancient and modern performances, ballets and concerts by theatrical troupes, orchestras and bands of international fame.
Eleftheria
The city celebrates its liberation during the first half of June, with cultural and artistic festivities in the open-air theater of the Castle of Panagia and the squares of the city under the supervision of the Municipality.
Grapes Festival of Eleochori
It takes place during July and August in the open-air theater of Eleochori, near N. Peramos (18km western of Kavala). It includes musical and theatrical performances as well as...tasteful surprises because the visitors are offered wine and grapes from the local vineyards.
Helios & Petra (Sun & Stone)
This is a festival that takes place in the open-air theater of N. Karvali (7km eastern of Kavala). It gives the peoples of the world the opportunity of fraternization through the original expression of their popular music and traditional dances presented by virtuous artists.
The potato festival
A popular celebration takes place in the region of Lekani the in first days of September. The visitors are treated to tasty goodies prepared from potatoes, while listening to the turns of traditional music and enjoy dance performances.
But, in the region of Kavala, festivities never end. There are many more, most of them religious, like the Carnival and Ash Monday, all over Kavala and its countryside.
